Who is this who is coming...

M.R James has long been a hero of mine, with 'A warning to the curious' and 'Whistle and I'll come to you' being two of my favourite stories.. which I discovered through the 1968 and 1972 bbc adaptations.. when they replayed of course, probably around 1990 I think when I would have been around 9 years old. The stories are brilliant, but Jonathan Millers adaptation of Whistle and I'll come to you, is outstanding... you just need a little patience for Michael Hordens stuffy fussiness!  Above is an illustration by James McBride, who was an illustrator for James' stories and also a close friend of James. I found out about McBride through a documentary about James, presented by Mark Gatis (am also a big league of gentleman fan') https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FUQzd-7dn4
